Olustee NOT "Old Lusty"

This Saturday is the Battle of Olustee Exposition (not the re-enactment, which is in February). I've been going out there for some time now (7 years?) and I love it! It occurs at the Olustee Battlefield State Park between the cities of Lake City and Macclenny, Florida. You can go and see lectures and demonstrations, some guns (maybe cannons) being fired, and, if you're lucky, me decked out in my period uniform. And for those of you who love nature, it is located right in the middle of Osceola National Forest, which contains beautiful Longleaf Pine ecosystems. I look forward to seeing you out there (whoever you may be :-D. ) You will have a great time, guaranteed. This was supposed to be posted last night, but I got up to do something and forgot about it. How loyal I am. Oh well.

OH and about the title...My father is the treasurer of the Olustee Battlefield CSO, and one time he was talking to a bank representative on the phone to register some kind of bank account. When he received the first bank statement the name on it was "Old Lusty Battlefield CSO." Wow. I wonder what the people who we did business with in the meantime thought.....

May not be historically correct, but Old Lusty Battlefield sounds a lot funnier!

That is so funny about the bank statement! I once owned a pony who in a previous life had quite a show career. His name (Deranch Richard) was changed forever when the announcer at one show called him "Deranged Richard". the name fit so well that his first owner kept it.

Ditto Pablo's comment.

FC - I was hoping that my dad would get some pictures of me today at the expo...he did not...so I will have to improvise.

I saw your comments on Pure Florida and came over to check out your blog. Nice job.

I really need to get up to Olustee sometime. Too bad it's in February and not March.

Like you, I had several ancestors in the Confederacy, including one gg-grandfather in the Alabama 53rd mounted Partisan Rangers, and another gg-grandfather in the Florida 6th Regiment who was lost in the war. Sadly, his family never learned what happened to him. But at least he had a couple of children before the war started - or I wouldn't be here. :-)

It's great to have someone your age with an interest in history and honoring your ancestors. Keep up the good work.

P.S.: Wishing the Olustee reenactment was in March rather than February wasn't the brightest comment I've ever made, since the battle itself was in February. I meant to say that I can't attend this February.

I'll try to do better. :-)
